I am a fully qualified independent counsellor based in Maidstone, Kent and a member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy).
I have worked with individuals experiencing common mental health issues such as, stress, anxiety and/or depression over a period of many years. More recently I have worked with clients experiencing more complex mental health needs such as eating disorders, gender identity, self-harm, bereavement, low self-esteem and many other issues that can impact on us all at some point in our lives.
I work as a humanistic/person-centred counsellor with aspects of other approaches such as CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy), TA (transactional analysis) and Gestalt. We are all different so I adapt my approach to best suit my client.
Prior to training to be a counsellor, I worked within a Human Resources environment for over 15 years. As part of this role I supported employees within my organisation who were on long-term sick leave and alongside their manager, helped facilitate a positive return to the work place. I also, for the same organisation worked as an IAPT Employment Advisor (increasing access into psychological therapies), supporting individuals who were experiencing common mental health issues to retain their employment. Support was given through the use of counselling skills, mediation and representation at formal meetings, such as disciplinary, grievance and capability. The outcomes for both employee and employer were predominantly positive and successful.
